Le M23 a repris le contrôle de la localité de Bambo après des violents combats qui ont opposé la rébellion à la coalition des jeunes d’autodéfense Wazalendo presque toute la journée de jeudi 26 octobre dans la partie du groupement Bwito. Des tirs d’armes lourdes continuent d’être entendus à Bambo et sont également signalés dans le groupement voisin de Bukombo. Durant un ratissage, deux civils ont perdu la vie et de nombreuses autres personnes ont été blessées. Des maisons et des boutiques ont été pillées, selon les habitants qui n’ont pas quitté la cité.
Un obus est tombé dans le quartier Majengo de Bambo, blessant deux personnes civiles et en tuant deux autres, selon un notable local. Par ailleurs, un calme précaire règne sur la ligne de front de Kibumba et Buhumba, en territoire de Nyiragongo, suite à des combats intenses jeudi entre les rebelles du M23 et les Wazalendo. Il est difficile de savoir qui occupe actuellement cette localité, car les informations sont contradictoires. Les habitants qui étaient retournés dans la région ont de nouveau fui par crainte pour leur vie depuis le déclenchement des affrontements entre les deux groupes belligérants.
Le M23 s’était retiré de Bambo au mois de juillet dernier dans le cadre du cessez-le-feu, mais les récents affrontements ont ravivé les tensions dans la région. Par ailleurs, des coups de feu ont été entendus dans les environs de la cité de Kichanga, toujours sous occupation du M23.
